555

Australian DJ, radio presenter & producer Brendan Palmer performs as 555 or ‘cinco cinco cinco’. If you are wondering, he was born on the 5th of May, 5.25am, is the fifth child in his family etc etc…

With cultural diversity his primary passion, his sets traverse language, culture, genre, history and social scenes, presenting an intersection of underground and outer-national sounds that capture his imagination. Roots to Futurism, East to West, Minimal to Maximal… Unified sound.

Alongside fusing with diverse dance floors, 555's language-focused DJ work draws him into collaborations with multi-lingual vocalists, instrumentalists & VJs. For similar reasons he has integrated into collaborative belly dancing and spoken word communities, developing unique multi-diciplinary interactions.

Representing the musically 'not so represented' for nearing two decades, in 1992 he started the electronic arts collective 'Clan Analogue', uniting the electronic producers and video artists of his hometown of Sydney. In 1996 he foundered the Zonar Recordings label, and for 7 years presented radio nationally the most multi-lingual media entity on planet earth, SBS Radio.

From 2003 to 2010 he operated in culturally charged Melbourne, launching the Uber Lingua project, an entity focused on celebrating the cultural and linguistic diversity of the region, through the promoting of parties, clubs, festival spaces and media projects. His sonic activity has grown exponentially, playing hundreds of gigs and promoting culturally charged music in most capital cities of Australia.

Presenting Tujiko Noriko at the Sydney Opera House and currating Uber Lingua AV performance/productions at the Darwin Festival, Sydney Festival & Adelaide Fringe Festival are highlights of this period. Touring multiple internationals and hosting traveling DJs in his clubs in Sydney and Melbourne has been central to Brendan's interaction with the international global beats community.

A long list of artists including Barcelona’s Filastine, Maga Bo from Rio, Poirier from Montreal, Chigago based Panamanian MC Zulu, Kenyan MC’s Sinpare, England’s Russ Jones, Indonesia’s Nova, Tijuana's Nortec Collective and DJ Chucuchu have all been given Uber Lingua’s red carpet treatment in Australia over the past few years.

Brendan has toured internationally many times. He performed All-Australian sets in Europe in 2002, and in 2007 circumnavigated planet earth performing multiple dates in Mexico, Europe and Japan.

Alongside his radio work at SBS, Brendan worked at Melbourne's legendary Triple R as a producer between 2004 & 2009. He is currently co-presenting the weekly Uber Lingua 'Dialectic' radio program broadcast nationally across Australia and parts of New Zealand on the Community Radio Network Satellite twice weekly.

In the 2nd half of 2010 Brendan once again toured Europe for 5 months, absorbing culture, performing, gathering sounds, conducting interviews, appearing on local radio and sending Dialectic episodes back to Australia from Berlin, Cologne, Poland, Vienna, Budapest, London, Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Lisbon and Istanbul.

During this time he made strong connections with many like minded souls. Alongside his Uber Lingua work he has officially become a member of Barcelona based sister-collective ‘Folcore Audiovisual Collectivo’, a crew he worked closely & performed with many times when in Spain in 2010.

Since returning to Australia he has moved to ‘costa central’ north of Sydney to fire off a new series of events and media projects.
